The Chilterns Walking Festival autumn event takes place from 06 to 21 October 2018. The 16-day programme of over 50 themed guided walks and activities caters equally for experienced walkers and complete novices and is designed to encourage exploration of new areas, share a love of the local landscape and provide sociable opportunities for healthy outdoor activity.

Led by experienced local volunteer guides, the autumn programme includes seasonal highlights like colourful beech woods, stories of former residents, glorious views and opportunities to learn new skills like map-reading and Nordic walking. There are linear and circular walks involving trains, farms, landmarks and churchyards. Many are will appeal to families seeking country adventures, others are inspired by a love of history and local stories, and some provide the perfect excuse to try a local tipple or cream tea.

Website www.visitchilterns.co.uk/walkingfest describes all of the programmed walks and activities. No previous experience is necessary, and each walk has guidance for the length, suggested level of fitness and terrain involved. Most walks are free of charge, though must be pre-booked via the website to assist walk leaders with expected numbers.

Tell your friends and family or come along to make new friends with shared interests. All it takes is a pair of comfy walking shoes and a love for exploring the Chilterns countryside in Buckinghamshire, Oxfordshire, Hertfordshire and Bedfordshire – an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
