“Anyone can be taught how to draw and paint but being creative is a totally different way of seeing and perceiving the world we live in.”

Courses by international video artist and art tutor, Dr Lorna Moore, are all about the artistic process.

With a background in visual art and decades of teaching experience that span postgrad students and prisoners, Lorna’s instinctive mindfulness is an underlying theme throughout her courses and goes hand in hand with another passion - the therapeutic benefits of creativity. Her holistic teaching style appeals to all levels. She encourages an awareness of visualising individual artistic experiences while constantly motivating her students to focus on their own personal learning curves. Then there’s the balance between pain and pleasure. Too much pain, Lorna asserts, is the result of taking things too seriously; an overdose of pleasure on the other hand suggests students aren’t working hard enough, an approach which mirrors the artistic premise of positive and negative space.

Lorna’s 14 week courses take place in Whipsnade Village Hall on Wednesday and Friday mornings, the new term beginning on January 9 (9.30am – 12.30pm). Term fees include en plein sketching sessions at local venues, all art materials and tutorials with other artists. Plus catch up sessions are available to anyone who misses their usual slot. Lorna also offers gift vouchers – the perfect Christmas present for any budding artists.
