Energy auction gives average savings of £292

Residents who signed up to the Big Community Switch – a collective energy switching scheme supported by Buckinghamshire County Council – are this week learning how much they could save on fuel bills (w/b February 16).

More than 600 Buckinghamshire residents joined nearly 23,000 nationally in the bidding scheme for the cheapest tariffs from energy suppliers.

Of those across the county who registered, 99.69% could make a saving, according to Government-backed iChoosr, which hosted the scheme. The average annual saving for Buckinghamshire registrants would be £292.70, compared with a national average of £236.

Lesley Clarke OBE, Cabinet Member for Environment and Planning, said: ‘These are significant savings, and I’m delighted we’ve been able to play a part inhelping to reducehousehold bills for our residents, and make it easier to switch if they want to.’

E.ON Energy won the auction bid to quote for dual fuel online and offline customers, along with those who wanted electricity only with paper billing. Scottish Power won the auction bid to quote for customers who wanted prepaymentelectricity and dual fuel, along with those who wanted electricity with an online account.

Residents who registered will have until March 16 to accept the quotes.
