Wendover Football Club Update – mid-February 2016

Baz

We have had mixed results in league recently which has seen the 1st team clinging on to 2nd in the ADL Premier Division and the Reserves at 5th in division 2. Both sides have however had some great success in the cup with both teams progressing to the semi-finals of the Marsworth Senior & Reserves Cup respectively, dates of which are still to be confirmed.

This month we would like to launch a new segment “Club player of the month” where we recognise a player from the club who will be nominated by the committee. To kick off this new segment, the committee has nominated one of its longest serving and dedicated players, Aaron ‘Baz’ Huddlestone. With 10 years of commitment to the club, Baz is both a fan and player favourite. Baz has had great success over his time with the club, playing all across the midfield or behind the striker, he was once the top goal scorer for our Reserves team. Baz’s success at the club is contributed to his great ability to read the game with a phenomenal work rate and a ‘Never say die’ attitude. Although Baz is not from Wendover, he shows real passion for both the club he plays for and the village alike. A great and willing player who we hope stays part of the club for many years.

In other news, the committee is working hard behind the scenes preparing volunteers for Wendover Celebrates in May and also on our annual 5 a-side tournament which is set to be bigger than ever – date TBC. The committee is not the only ones looking ahead, our players will once again be entering into the Village Cup Cricket to continue their team work and fitness in preparation for next season.
