“THE HORSE IN ART”
14 September – 27 October 2019
A wonderful chance to see an exciting exhibition of equine art and sculpture at Obsidian Art in Stoke Mandeville.
For horse and art-lovers alike this equine-themed art exhibition features a truly outstanding calibre of paintings, drawing, prints, sculpture, jewellery and more by some of the best in equine artists from all over the UK.
Including over 100 wonderful paintings, prints and sculptures, as well as jewellery and gifts, this makes for a fascinating exhibition of high quality art showing the diversity and huge variety of style and media in use to portray one subject – the horse – from traditional oils on canvas, to charcoals and inks, and sculpture in clay, bronze and glass.
Equine art has long been a popular subject in art – the horse, particularly in movement, presents a challenge to artists to capture the animal’s power and grace. In this exhibition are some of the best equine artists who specialise in painting & sculpting horses. The artists have been selected not only for their ability at capturing horses on paper, canvas or in clay, but also for their diversity of approach and methods. These range from traditional oil on canvas paintings and sculptures in bronze to more contemporary work with a more stylised approach, and more unusual media for the subject matter – this year’s exhibition includes some amazing glass sculpture as well as delicate jewellery and contemporary mixed media semi-abstract paintings.
Several of the exhibitors are nationally recognised prize-winning equine artists, who have work in public and private collections. There are also several up and coming younger artists taking part. Well known artists taking part this year include James Horton (Past President, Royal Society of British Artists) and Kristine Nason (winner of the Best Professional in the Portrait, Figure or Animal Category, SAA Artist of the Year Competition in 2001). In total over 30 artists are taking part and include several from the Chilterns area, including Rebecca Rason Flor Ferreira, Wendy Farrington, Sally Legatt, Sophie Fois, Barry Blake, Claire Buchta, Niki Bell, Roseanna Chetwood and Judy Cowper.
Entry is free to the exhibition at Obsidian Art and all artwork is for sale.
With such a huge variety of style & subject there should be something for everyone – don’t miss it!
