Support local hospice care this summer at the new Walk of Light
Florence Nightingale Hospice Charity returns with a brand new fundraising event this summer on Saturday 24 June.

The inaugural Walk of Light will give the charity’s supporters the opportunity to come together to remember loved ones, show their support and raise funds for local hospice care.

The event will see walkers complete 5 or 10 mile circular routes around Watermead Lake and through the green Meadowcroft Open Space, before returning to Watermead to cheer fellow walkers over the line and watch the event’s closing ceremony at 9.30pm as the sun goes down.

Walkers will be able to dedicate a ‘Light of Love’ to a loved one or add a message of thanks and support to the hospice team – the lights will be lit to illuminate the lake as part of the closing ceremony, followed by a low noise firework display.

“We are really excited to launch this new event and hope that our local community will turn out to support us,” says Steve Butcher, Events Manager at the charity. “We believe it’s going to be a really enjoyable and memorable event for everyone, whatever their reason for walking.”

Registration costs £20 (£17 Early Bird until 30 April). Walkers can choose their start time and route on Saturday 24 June and stay to enjoy refreshments and entertainment at the finish.

Walkers will receive a free commemorative Walk of Light 2023 T-shirt and Finisher’s Medal as well as the opportunity to add a message to the charity’s Lights of Love.
