Wendover Art Club

Wendover Art Club meets at St Anne’s Hall, Wendover Christian Centre, Aylesbury Road, Wendover on the 2nd and 4th Thursdays of each month, between 7:30 & 9:30 pm. Please note there is a charge of £10 for non member guests for demonstrations and of £2 for Creative Evenings. We have a variety of talks and demonstrations during the year as well as working evenings where we can practise the tips given us or develop our own style

OCTOBER 2023

12th – Creative Evening – Townscape à la Cathy Read.  With Cathy’s demonstration still in our minds it’s the best time to have a go at creating a townscape in her lively and colourful style.  Bring your own townscape, possibly already drawn out, and your most colourful collection of paints, and we’ll have a go.
26th –  Jan Gaska.   Landscapes in gouache. Not a subject we’ve had previously but having seen his paintings on his website not one to miss. Very atmospheric and colourful.

November

9th    A Creative Evening.   TBA

23rd   Gary Spencer – Vale of Aylesbury in acrylics.  Gary is back with us by popular demand, and will be demonstrating his techniques for producing the acrylic painting of the ‘Vale of Aylesbury’ that was featured in the Artist and Illustrator.

December

14th    Members Christmas Get Together.   Our chance to relax and enjoy a few nibbles and a drink whilst indulging in some party game loosely associated with art.

A very Happy New Year

January

11th   Creative evening – we’re going to continue the part theme and play ‘Musical Chairs’.
I’m not going to go into too much detail here but it will be fun, really it will be. There will be a still life and you will need pencils (ordinary or coloured), some paper and a board.

25th   Bex Gouverneur demonstrating in pastels.   Bex’ animal drawings are amazing and full of energy so I anticipate her ‘Giraffe’ will be quite something to watch coming to life.

February

8th    Creative evening – Limited Palette.

For this you’re only going to be allowed paper, Payne’s grey or black, white and one colour.  Nearer the time there will be an explanatory example for you to see.  This is a great exercise in how not to use too many colours and to experience what can be achieved with a very limited palette.

22nd    Peter Keegan – will be demonstrating how to make your portraits more expressive.  This is a great treat as Peter is a very accomplished portrait painter and as a result in great demand.  Definitely a must in your diary.

March

14th    Keith Hornblower, a Fellow of the Society Architectural Illustrators, will be showing us how to attack such pictures as one of Wendover High Street.
28th   Creative Evening – Local Scenes.  Bring your own local scene and we’ll work through the ideas from Keith’s demonstration to develop our own versions.  So to not take us to far from our comfort zones – your own choice of medium.

April
11th    Creative evening – People and Pets.  Portrait night, but with your own photos of your family or your pets and in your own choice of medium.  Although it is lovely to have a live model, the lighting in the Hall is not ideal to get the really good darks and bright lights, hence the photos. In a photo you can get the light just right, or if like me not always just as you would like then the computer will help out.

25th Nicky Hunter is back with us after her session with mushrooms to lead us through her techniques for watercolour flowers.

May
9th    Creative Evening – Finding the abstract.  We’ve all got loads of photos of scenes, people, pets, flowers etc that at some point or other we were going to paint.  Get those out and magnify them and see what shapes and hidden depths you can find in them.  An explanatory example will be available with a bit more information nearer the day.

23rd    DVD and Social Evening before we break for summer.
