Adult Learning tutors win prestigious awards
Two Adult Learning tutors at Missenden Abbey have won prestigious awards.
Janet Edmonds, 71, of Chesham, has been awarded aCity & Guilds Medal for Excellence for teaching Stitched Textiles. She has been teaching embroidery and embroidery design for over 25 years.
Student Jane Robinson said: “Janet always makes her classes very varied, with beautiful samples to look at as wellas live demonstrations of techniques, all of which inspire the wish to learn. The depth and breadth of her knowledge is really exciting for students.
“I am very grateful to Janetbecause her teaching drew outmore ability than I realised I had.She is a dedicated, conscientiousteacher who works incrediblyhard, and she has influenced andinspired so many people.”
Janet, who has published four books, says she was completely surprised by the award.
She said: “I am so pleased. I’m amazed to think I am one of the best in the country to win this award.”
Meanwhile, Missenden Abbey botanical painting tutor Roger Reynolds has just been awarded a Royal Horticultural Society (RHS)Gold Medal for his work exhibited at the recent Royal Horticultural Society’s London Botanical Art Show.
The annual show, held at the RHS Lindley Hall, champions the skills of some of the world’s best botanical artists with entrants from as far afield as Japan, USA, Australia, South Korea and Hong Kong. Roger’s winning work ‘The Tip of the Branch’ follows the growth of six native woody plants through the seasons.
Roger, 72, from Harpenden, said: “It took two years to prepare the submission because I had to wait for the plants to present themselves as the seasons changed. My work was appreciated by the public because with so many people from overseas they enjoyed seeing British plants illustrated. I hope it will encourage the people I teach at Missenden to push the next step up the ladder too.”
