Alternative route repairs scheduled

Repairs to traffic damage on High Wycombe’s Alternative Route will be carried out during two brief road closures later in October.

A short section of Desborough Road, between Bridge Street and Westbourne Street junctions will close to traffic on Monday 29 October for up to five days to allow contractors to safely repair short sections of kerbwork, and some granite channel and central reservation blocks.

About 10 metres of Bridge Street from the Desborough Road junction will close to traffic on Monday and Tuesday 5/6 November to repair drain covers in the middle of the road, and a granite channel that forms the outline of the informal pedestrian crossings.

Buses will divert via Oxford Road, and local diversions for other traffic will be clearly signed.

Mark Shaw, Buckinghamshire County Council Deputy Leader and Transport Cabinet Member, said that if work along Desborough Road progressed well, the Bridge Street closure would be brought forward to minimise disruption.

“I’m sorry we need to close these short sections of road, but we do need to make the safety of the workforce our priority,” said Mark. “I understand this may cause inconvenience, for which I apologise, but I’m pleased these repairs are now being done.”
