Armed Forces Day volunteer urges others to come forward
A former Armed Forces Day volunteer who hasalready signed up tobe part of thisyear’seventbecauseit wassuch an “honourable and rewarding” experience, is urging peopleacrossBuckinghamshireto get involved!
Tyrone Weeks (aged 18) from Aylesburywho volunteeredin 2013 couldn’t wait to sign up to volunteer forthis year’sArmed Forces Day, taking place at AylesburyRugby Club onSaturday, June 27 from 1pm to 7pm.
With something on offer for all the family from fairground rides to stalls and performances by local groups and singers, the event combines music with military tributes and air displays to raise awareness of the work of service personnel.
Tyronesaid: “I would say that Armed Forces Day is a chance for everyone to show their support and gratitude for all the men and women in the Armed Forces,from serving troops to service families, veterans and cadets.
“Ithoroughly enjoyed my time as a volunteer as Igot to meetlots of different people outofthe 10,000 who attended, made new friendsand experienced lots of different thingsfrom the red arrows flypastto the local cadets show.I had such a greattime, which iswhyI’ve signed up to do itall overagain!”
Anyone who can donate either some or all of their time over Armed the weekend are being encouraged to sign up onour websitewww.buckscc.gov.uk/armedforcesvolunteers.
Weare particularly keen to hear from people who can help with theset up of the event on Friday (26 June) and/or theclear-uponSunday (28 June).
In return, youwill be provided with free entry, a food voucher, access to refreshments and a volunteering t-shirt (which must be worn on the day, but can be kept as a souvenir). You will also receive time credits which can be converted and used at various attractions and leisure activities.
Sir Henry Aubrey-Fletcher,Lord Lieutenant for Buckinghamshire said: “This is a great opportunity to be involved in a big family fun day event, make new friends, develop new skills and boost your CV whilst getting involved with the local community.
“It promises to be a fantasticday and we would love to see everyone enjoying themselves, soI want to encourage as many people as possible to be part of this special day.”
