Assistance sought by local disability charity providing a wheelchair accessible vehicle in the Wendover area

The Barbara Bus Fund is a registered charity that provides wheelchair adapted vehicles on loan to anyone reliant on their wheelchair for mobility.  They may be driven by family members, friends and carers of the wheelchair user at minimal cost and vehicle loan may be for a few hours, a day, a weekend or even a week’s holiday, giving complete freedom and privacy to all concerned.

One of our fleet is a small adapted vehicle the size of a small comfortable van, for which only a normal driving licence is required, which we plan to base at a location in this area from where it may be collected and returned.

Subject to each driver meeting our basic requirements he or she will receive detailed training in the securing of the wheelchair and passenger in the vehicle and will be covered by our comprehensive fleet motor insurance and breakdown recovery service.  All we ask in return is that the fuel used is replaced with the tank topped up ready for the next user and that a donation be made to ensure the ongoing viability of the service.

Our immediate need is for a safe, easily accessible location where the vehicle may be parked free of charge when not in use – maybe a local care home or other organisation with whom we could agree a mutually satisfactory agreement.  We are also seeking one or two local volunteers to assist occasionally with the administration of the new local service.

Initial enquiries should be made by email or telephone to David Thomas at the Barbara Bus Fund:
