Aylesbury MP, Rob Butler, hits out at Red Rose bus fares

Rob Butler MP has called on local bus company Red Rose to join the Government’s scheme to offer capped £2 single fares.

This follows a complaint to the MP from a local constituent, who paid £4.50 to travel to Milton Keynes – more than double the price of the fare under the Government’s scheme.

Mr Butler today raised the issue in Parliament.

Afterwards, he said:

“The Government’s £2 cap is a real help to people facing a high cost-of-living. I’m extremely disappointed that Red Rose buses aren’t taking part, meaning residents of Aylesbury are paying much higher fares than they should.

“In the Commons this morning, the Transport Minister made it clear he is also disappointed with Red Rose. He and I would like the bus company’s bosses to meet us to explain why they want local people to pay so much more than the cap, and I have now written to the Managing Director to ask him to come to Westminster so we can try to find a way to ensure everyone in Aylesbury can benefit from cheaper fares.”
