Aylesbury MP welcomes MOD pledge to reinstate Wendover park equipment

Wendover’s popular “Helicopter Park” is to get its play equipment reinstated following the intervention of local MP Rob Butler. Play equipment was suddenly removed from the park in January, after repeated vandalism. Following pressure from the MP, the Ministry of Defence, which is responsible for the site, has promised to deliver replacement equipment.

Rob said:

“As soon as I heard from local residents that the play equipment had been removed I contacted the defence minister to ask for it to be returned. Whilst RAF Halton can’t be expected to continually repair vandalised equipment, the Defence Infrastructure Organisation (DIO) should not have suddenly removed it in this way. I have been pressing the minister repeatedly to sort this out, and am very grateful to him for confirming that a new play park will be delivered by this summer”.

Once the play park is restored, the site and equipment will be sub-leased to Wendover Parish Council who will then have responsibility for the ongoing maintenance of the site.
Minister for Defence Procurement, Jeremy Quin MP said:

“I am grateful to Rob for bringing this to my attention. He has been assiduous in campaigning on this issue on behalf of his constituents. I am delighted that Wendover will once again be able to enjoy their popular park and I hope, through the Parish Council, retain it for years to come.”

Rob added:

“I very much appreciate the work of the minister and his team to resolve this at such an incredibly busy time for the MOD. I am sure everyone in Wendover will do what they can to protect the new equipment from vandals so that village children can enjoy themselves safely in the play park for years to come.”
