Aylesbury Raise Flag for Armed Forces Day
RAF Halton personnel have supported two Armed Forces Day flag raising events in Aylesbury and Hemel Hempstead. Dignitaries and local people turned out for the short ceremony and in Aylesbury, Chairman of Buckinghamshire County Council, Councillor Zafir Mohammed, said: “On behalf of Buckinghamshire County Council I would like to say how proud we are to raise the flag today to commemorate and give thanks to our Armed Forces Family, many of whom are currently serving on operations. Our thoughts are with them and their families as the whole nation joins together this week to pay tribute to them. This year is more important with the anniversary of the start of World War One where so many gave their lives for us.”
Buckinghamshire’s Lord Lieutenant, Sir Henry Aubrey-Fletcher, who took the salute, said: ‘This is more than a simple flag-raising. This ceremony marks our heartfelt thanks to those in this county who currently serve, have served, or will serve in the armed forces, and it celebrates our very close links in Buckinghamshire between the armed services and local communities.’
