BBOWT Standing by for Action

Once the current restrictions are lifted we shall welcome everyone who would like to try their hands at conservation work on our reserves. Winter is the time to clear scrub that encroaches on the chalk grassland where orchids and gentians flower in summer and to cut the brambles back from paths. It’s a sociable activity in the fresh air so give it a go by checking with the local wardens on bbowt.org/volunteering to see what sessions have been organised at Dancersend, College Lake, Aston Clinton Ragpits and Bacombe Hill.

On Tuesday 15 December at 7.45pm we shall have our next online talk via Zoom. John Tyler, photographer and naturalist, will show his amazing close-up pictures, as always with a generous dose of humour, in ‘Nature in a Nutshell.’ Please sign up online by going to bbowt.org/events.

Many thanks to all who supported our Plant Market at College Lake on 18 October – it made a profit of £1037 for BBOWT. The plan is to keep the reserve open in December from Wednesday till Sunday from 11am to 3pm with a break from Christmas to New Year. The café will continue to serve for consumption outside and it is hoped that we can open the shop too from 5 December. Please get in touch with any queries.
