Be a Better Biker is back for 2022

Now in its 13th year, ‘Be a Better Biker’ is back for 2022!

Developed by Transport for Buckinghamshire’s (TfB) road safety team, the workshops were put on hold throughout the pandemic, but can now safely resume. Suitable for anyone with a full motorbike license, the workshops can help bikers take their skills to the next level, whether you want to improve your riding skills, are returning to motorcycling or just want to get up to date with the latest training. The workshops will be running from March through to July.

Be A Better Biker courses cover the principles of advanced riding, including:

  • Maneuvering
  • Overtaking
  • Cornering techniques
  • Ride out with a qualified observer
  • A review of the on-road sessions, discussing lessons learnt

At the end of the session each candidate will receive a copy of the book How to Be a Better Rider published by IAM Roadsmart, the UK’s leading road safety charity and advocate.

The workshops cost £20 per biker and are being held in various venues across Buckinghamshire, with some partners delivering workshops further afield throughout Thames Valley. The first workshop is set to take place on 19 March in Winslow, with further dates to follow.

Steven Broadbent, Cabinet Member for Transport, said:

“With its winding roads and beautiful countryside views, Buckinghamshire is understandably popular with bikers – particularly when the weather gets warmer and the bikes come out of the garage for the first time in months.

“Unfortunately, national data from The Department for Transport (DfT) shows that motorcyclists are most likely to be killed on rural roads.

“We want everyone to be safe on our roads, so I’d encourage all local bikers to attend one of the workshops, which will improve their safety and enjoyment of riding.”
