Bedgrove’s Big Christmas Light Switch On raises over £5,000 for local Hospice

Last Saturday night the community of Bedgrove in Aylesbury came together to raise money for Florence Nightingale Hospice Charity in memory of Helen Willment Tibbs at Bedgrove’s Big Christmas Light Switch on.

Helen was cared for at Florence Nightingale Hospice in the summer and her friends wanted to do something to raise money for the Hospice – every year Helen, and her neighbours on Crosland Road on Bedgrove in Aylesbury, would decorate their houses for Christmas and so the idea for a Christmas Lights Switch On was born.

Hundreds of friends, family, colleagues, and local residents supported the event, despite the wild conditions, to partake in the food, drinks, raffle, tombola and live music provided by local businesses and friends. The event raised an amazing £5,000 with donations still coming in, which will help patients at the Hospice over the Christmas period.

Hazel Hutt said, “Wow what an event … it truly was a great memorial to our fabulous Helen Willment Tibbs who we love and miss every single day, she would be so proud of tonight and that so many people turned out to celebrate an evening that she always loved and treasured. It goes without saying how grateful we are to all the local businesses, family and friends who donated their time and prizes. Without you it wouldn’t have been possible.”
