Meet Britain’s Most Intelligent Bear
As the country celebrates National Teddy Bear Day 2016 (Friday, 9 September), visitors to Bletchley Park can view Britain’s brainiest bear, Porgy. The teddy was bought by Alan Turing – the most famous of the WW2 codebreakers – when he was a student and professor at Cambridge University. Turing used to practise his lectures in front of Porgy, who he later had dressed in dungarees as a Christmas present for his niece, Shuna Turing. The bear is one of several exhibits at Bletchley Park that reveal a different side to Turing than just his fiercely intelligent mind. |
