Buckinghamshire Home Library Service
Are you, or is someone you know, housebound through age, poor health or mobility? Do you love reading and miss going to the library?
The Home Library Service , part of Buckinghamshire Libraries, is co-ordinated by Roberta Wixon.
Roberta says” This wonderful free service is run by a dedicated group of volunteers who choose books, deliver and pick them up for our clients. Clients can borrow DVDs, talking books and magazines as well their choice from our huge range of large and normal print books.
To set up the service I make an initial visit to the client at home to talk about their needs and wishes and set up a library account if they haven’t got one already. From then on I match the client with a volunteer who will ring the client and arrange to deliver the first lot of books. They will then arrange to visit on a monthly basis to pick up any books the client has finished with and bring some more. The volunteer also manages the client’s library account dealing with renewals when needed and there are never any overdue charges. If they have time they will often stay for a chat. Some of our volunteers and clients have become good friends.”
