Buckinghamshire housebuilders present top tips for the perfect picnic
In celebration of National Picnic Week (18th – 26th June), local developer Barratt and David Wilson Homes have put together its top tips for residents to enjoy the perfect picnic.
According to National Picnic Week, the average person in the UK picnics at least three times a year. With the summer sun on its way, there is no better time to prepare the basket.
The housebuilders actively select the locations of their developments based on a number of aspects including proximity to open spaces and parks.
Alongside this, there are parks and open spaces on many of Barratt and David Wilson Homes’ developments in Buckinghamshire, making them the ideal spot for residents to enjoy a picnic.
The developer’s top tips to enjoy a picnic are:
Packing the basket
Before starting to prepare your food, it is worth considering other items you might need. Some of these might include: a blanket, hand wipes, napkins, plates, cups, and cutlery. Alongside these items, it might even be worth considering bringing some sun cream, sunglasses, sun hat, and insect repellent.
Plan your activities
Whether with children or not, consider a few activities to keep you entertained after you have eaten. Classic games include throwing a frisbee, playing with a bat and ball, and playing card games. Other activities you could try include drawing your surroundings, playing charades, or having a game of hide and seek.
Food and drink
The best thing about a picnic is that there are no rules on what food you can bring, but try not to pack anything that could melt or spoil, for example chocolate or cream. Crisps now take the crown as the most popular picnic food, but a few more favourites include sandwiches, pasta salad, scotch eggs, pork pies, cocktail sausages, fruit salad, and cupcakes.
For drinks, bring a cool box to keep them as cold as possible. Water is essential, but fizzy pop and fruit juice will make for a nice treat. A fun activity before you leave for your picnic could be to make some homemade lemonade.
After you have enjoyed your picnic, it is vital that you clean up. Taking a bin bag or a shopping bag to put all your rubbish in is a good tip. Leaving litter not only is an eye sore for your fellow residents, but can also harm animals and the environment.
Jason Hearn, Sales Director at David Wilson Homes South Midlands, said: “We hope our top tips will help to give residents in the county the tools for a successful picnic this National Picnic Week.
“In addition to building high-quality homes, we are keen to give residents at our developments the opportunity to enjoy the mental and physical health benefits that living close to green, open spaces can bring.”
