Buckle up! Travel Safe Bucks launches seatbelt campaign
Transport for Buckinghamshire’s road safety initiative, Travel Safe Bucks, has launched a new seatbelt campaign, urging people to #DoTheSmartThing and wear their seatbelt.
The campaign seeks to remind people that there is no excuse not to wear a seatbelt. It doesn’t matter how long you’ve been driving, how far your journey is, or how familiar you are with your route, you always need to wear a seatbelt. Don’t take the risk.
The message isn’t just aimed at drivers, passengers should also always make sure that they wear a seatbelt. Drivers and passengers who fail to wear seat belts in the front and back of the vehicles are not just putting their lives at risk but are also breaking the law and could find themselves facing an on the spot fine of £100, which can rise to £500 If prosecuted.
You’re twice as likely to die in a crash if you aren’t wearing your seatbelt. if unrestrained, you will hit the windscreen, or the seat in front of you at a force of 30 to 60 times your own body weight. Don’t take the risk – #DoTheSmartThing and always wear your seatbelt.
Service Director for Highways and Transportation, Rob Smith, said:
“Thankfully the majority of people wear their seat belts, but there are still some people who decide to take the risk by not wearing a seat belt, especially on short journeys.
“Research has shown that many collisions occur at low speed and within in few miles of home. So even if you’re just popping out for five minutes on a road you always use, please remember to wear a seatbelt. It could save your life.”
