Bucks Best Launched
The Story
Tuesday 1st April 2014 – The Chiltern Brewery were thrilled to host the launch of Bucks Best, the beer launched to celebrate the 20th anniversary of Mix96 www.mix96.co.uk and to support Mix96’s chosen charity for the year, St Tiggywinkles Wildlife Hospital. The exciting launch was held in The Gatehouse Chamber, at The King’s Head and the beer will be available at the brewery shop in Terrick, The Farmers’ Bar and other great pubs around Buckinghamshire throughout April.
The name was decided as the result of a hugely popular and fun ‘Name the Beer’ competition. Well over 200 often hilarious and very imaginative names were put forward and Max chose the winner ‘Bucks Best’ for its beer friendly tone and link to Mix96’s playing of ‘Bucks Best Mix of Music’.
“Local Bards have been in fine form!” added Tom Jenkinson. “This really has been great fun.”
The Winner
The lucky winner, Olivia Cowan of Speen, won a VIP invitation to the beer’s official launch today and a fabulous tour of The Chiltern Brewery for two.
Special Pub Quizzes and Prizes
To make sure as many people as possible get to try Bucks Best this month, any pub stocking it will be entered into a draw and 5 lucky winners will be picked out of a hat at random. Mix96 will hold special pub quizzes with the winners with prizes donated by The Chiltern Brewery.
The Charity
Olivia Cowan was delighted to learn that 5p from every pint of Bucks Best sold will be donated to the Mix96 charity of the year, Tiggywinkles wildlife hospital in Haddenham.
Tasting Notes
Draught Bucks Best is a superb blend of two beers with an extra charge of hops to add complexity and character. It is a dark chestnut beer 3.8% volume and perfect to raise a glass in celebration to 20 years of Mix96.
The Chiltern Brewery
George & Tom Jenkinson are brothers and directors of this family run brewery, founded in 1980 by their father and mother, Richard and Lesley Jenkinson. They are in their 34th year of business and remain the oldest independent brewery in The Chiltern Hills and Buckinghamshire.
Built on an old working farm in the heart of the Chilterns, the emphasis has always been to produce natural, wholesome beers using the best, class A malt and hops sourced in England. The brewing process mirrors age-old methods and the beers are brewed with skill, passion and integrity. “We have always been proud to support British farmers and all our ingredients have good provenance” says George Jenkinson, Director.
The brewery has grown steadily over the years with the dedicated help of other family members and a strong team. The brewery shop sells the full range of bottled and draught beers; plus locally made wines, ciders, condiments, cordials and a delicious range of products such as chocolate, fresh bread, fudge and fruit cake that are all made using the brewery’s fine ales.
