Bucks Libraries scoop Hoop awards

Four Buckinghamshire libraries have been voted as top local family attractions by users of the family activity app, ‘Hoop’.

High Wycombe Library came first and Marlow Library third in the Buckinghamshire ‘Hoop’ awards for ‘Best Free Activities’. Amersham Library came second and Princes Risborough Library third in the ‘Best local Family Service’ category.

More than 100,000 votes were cast by users of Hoop which is a website for parents to find family activities in their local area.

Buckinghamshire Libraries offer a big range of facilities alongside traditional book borrowing. You can visit your local library to use a computer, attend a course or another activity, browse up to date magazines and newspapers and so much more.

Councillor Noel Brown, Buckinghamshire County Council’s Cabinet Member for Community Engagement and Public Health said:

“Our libraries are real community hubs and I’m especially proud of how well these much-loved libraries have done in these particular categories. It shows off what our libraries do best – offer a welcoming, inviting space for people of all ages and backgrounds and they are, of course, a wonderful free of charge local attraction.

Our libraries are branching out more and more – for example in Buckingham and High Wycombe we’ve recently had MacMillan set up information points where people can get free information and advice about cancer in a non-clinical setting.

Our libraries also offer a brilliant online service. I’m really pleased that these libraries have been awarded by votes from users themselves – it shows how much our local communities and families love them!”

Max Jennings, one of the founders of Hoop said:

“The Hoop awards are designed to find the UK’s favourite kids activities and to celebrate the people and organisations that go above and beyond to entertain, educate and inspire children nationwide.

Winners are decided by a public vote; over 100,000 votes were cast in the 2019 awards, so to be a winner it means you are loved by local families – congrats!”
