Bucks New University’s Art & Design Summer Show opens until 19 June
“We have very bright stars with very bright futures,” said Professor Julie McLeod, Pro Vice-Chancellor, Education at Buckinghamshire New University at the opening of its Art & Design Summer Show.
The Show, which is open until 7pm today (14 June) and runs until Wednesday 19 June at the University’s Campus in Queen Alexandra Road, High Wycombe, includes a range of eye-catching work from final-year students across its Art & Design courses.
“The great work on display from our students is testament to the dedication, expertise and effort of all of the University staff,” added Prof McLeod. “We are immensely proud of the creativity and talent displayed by our students.”
The University welcomed VIP guests including the Deputy Mayor of High Wycombe, Councillor Matt Knight, to an opening night event.
The Show comes after Fashion courses at Bucks New University were named the best in London and the South East according to the Guardian University Guide 2020. The degree programmes, which include Fashion Design and Textile Design, also rank fifth best nationally in the independently compiled league tables.
Art & Design degree courses at the University – including Creative Advertising; Product Design; Graphic Design; Illustration; and Interior and Spatial Design – were also ranked eighth best in the UK.
Graphic Design student Chloe Phillips, whose work looks at subjects including female empowerment, said: “This Show is a real celebration of every course and of everyone’s work and there is some outstanding work here.”
Fellow student Becki Rana, studying Graphic Arts, is displaying work which looks at the issue of Brexit and fruit imports. “I don’t think my project could have gone any better,” said Becki. “I am excited to display the work and show it to people.”
Fashion Design student Beth Jefferys is exhibiting a range of work inspired by famous architect Antoni Gaudí, including a colourful shirt/dress, dungaree dress, and boiler suit.
“I have been posting teasers of my work on Instagram and I am excited to show off the full collection at this year’s Show,” she said. “It is a great chance to display the work I am most proud of.”
Courses exhibiting are Creative Advertising; Fashion Design, Graphic Arts, Graphic Design; Interior and Spatial Design, Product Design, Product Design: Interior Porduct, Textile Design, Kitchen Design, and Diploma in Foundation Studies in Art and Design.
The Show is open until 7pm on Friday 14 June; from 10am-4pm on Saturday 15 June; and from 10am-2pm and 5pm-7pm on Monday 17 June; Tuesday 18 June; and Wednesday 19 June.
