Calling all Bucks relatives of World War I veterans
A former Buckinghamshire High Sheriff is calling all first generation descendants of World War One veterans to join her at a special Afternoon Tea Party to mark the 100th anniversary of the end of the Great War and to celebrate the men and women who fought so bravely.
Amanda Nicholson is holding the event at Halton House on Monday 8th October from 4.30pm to 7pm and would like to hear from anyone living in Buckinghamshire or the surrounding area with a parent who served and survived WWI.
The 8th October is a significant date for Amanda herself as it is the centenary of her father, who served with the Royal Flying Corps, being shot and managing to land his plane, luckily close to a Red Cross Dressing Station. Amanda’s father in law was also wounded in the war and survived as an amputee.
Guests at the tea party will be entertained by local ladies choir J’s Joyous Divas and others. The event is free to attend but voluntary donations can be made to the British Red Cross.
If you would like to attend please contact Amanda Nicholson via email: arnicholson@btconnect.com or contact Samantha Snelus at the British Red Cross on: 01908 578323
All guests must pre-register in order to be allowed access to the RAF Halton site.
A range of events will be taking place in Buckinghamshire leading up to and on Sunday 11 November 2018 to mark the centenary of the end of WWI.
Sir Henry Aubrey-Fletcher, HM Lord Lieutenant of Buckinghamshire explained more: “Lots of work is currently going on behind the scenes to arrange a wide range of events across the county to mark the centenary of the end of World War One. Such a significant date needs to be remembered in a fitting way as both a celebration but also a commemoration of all those who were involved.
“We are keen for all local residents to get involved and help us mark this event so keep an eye out for more information on what is planned over coming weeks.”
