Chairman shows her thanks to the county’s volunteers

County Council Chairman Val Letheren has been showing her appreciation for the hard work of local volunteers after hosting two special receptions in their honour.

Volunteers were invited to attend one of two special events held in Aylesbury and Beaconsfield, where they were personally thanked by the Chairman as well as Cabinet members and senior County Council managers for their efforts.

More than 1,200 people of all ages and from all backgrounds volunteer for the council every year in a range of services:

• School travel planners work with schools to promote road safety and sustainable travel
• Simply Walk volunteers help deliver over 50 walks across the county every week
• Country Parks volunteers get hands on helping to manage and maintain habitats
• Our Active Bucks champions and Master Composters go out into the community promoting our schemes
• Other volunteers work in libraries, archives and adult learning helping to conserve data and records or give support to visitors
• Some of our volunteers work hard supporting our Education Appeals panel and others work anti-social hours providing support to young people.
• Events such as Armed Forces Day are boosted by the people who volunteer to help in a range of activities from manning gates to setting up and clearing away afterwards.

Val said: “We are very fortunate to have so many willing volunteers in Buckinghamshire. Many people already have busy schedules and lives but they still find a way to offer up some of their time to help us carry out many tasks and duties that would simply be impossible to do without them.

“The hard work and commitment of these unsung heroes makes it possible to sustain and deliver services that make a difference to people’s lives and are really valued by residents and communities across the county. On behalf of the whole of Buckinghamshire County Council I would like to express my heartfelt thanks to each and every one of them for the work that they do.”
