Chairman raises the flag for Commonwealth Day

Buckinghamshire joined more than1,000 communities around the country to raise the flag for Commonwealth Day today (Monday March 13).

2017 marks 40 years since Commonwealth Day became a global celebration marked on the same day every year – the second Monday in March.

Chairman Val Letheren raised the flag in front of Old County Hall, in Aylesbury Market Square, at 10am, celebrating a daymarked by 52 countries worldwide.

The Chairman was joined by cabinet members, senior managers and members of the Buckinghamshire Army Cadet Force. Bugler Max Farmer played a fanfare as the flag was raised.

Val said: “Commonwealth Day gives us all the opportunity to celebrate the values of co-operation, understanding and respect between our nations.”
