Bodger’s Reserve from Chiltern Brewery
“A delightful beer” says Jeff Evans.
On Tuesday 5th March leading beer writer, taster and renowned professional beer ‘drinker’ Jeff Evans of inside beer http://www.insidebeer.comwas welcomed to the Farmers’ Bar at The King’s Head, Market Square Aylesbury for the official launch of Bodgers Reserve , the latest limited edition beer from The Chiltern Brewery.
It is a great honour to have someone so knowledgeable and so highly respected within the industry to visit this fabulously historic pub to launch this very special new bottled beer. Jeff’s very positive comments and tasting notes were very welcome too.
“We have taken our ever popular and sumptuously smooth Bodgers Barley Wine, matured it in old whisky puncheons (barrels) for 5 months and let the bottled ale rest for a further 7 months in our cellars. This allows the flavours to mellow and mature” says Head Brewer Tom Jenkinson.
The Beer
Limited to just 500 numbered bottles, the new Bodgers Reserve is a real treat. At 8.9% volume, each 500 ml bottle is to be savoured and respected. It is available from 5th March on the websitehttp://www.chilternbrewery.co.uk/buy/bodgers-reserve
Tasting Notes
“A dark golden ale with abundant aromas of strawberry and creamy oak. Ripe berry fruits (strawberry in particular) shine through in the generally sweet, warming taste, contrasted by a dry, creamy oak character and hints of orange zest. Fruity sweetness lingers a while in the dry, tangy, oaky finish which leaves a pleasant glow and rounded bitterness. This is a complex, delightful beer that is not at all heavy or cloying for its strength.”
Notes on the beer:-
This beer is bottled at the brewery unpasteurised, with its original yeast.
Store upright and cool, serve lightly chilled and pour with care leaving the natural sediment in the bottle.
Optimum serving temperature 12°C/55F.
