Autumn Newsletter 2015

The usually slightly calmer time from May to August was very brief this year! The woodland nesting birds were still left undisturbed but we were kept very busy working with volunteers clearing vegetation from the river Wye and planning our Autumn and Winter sessions. The big excitement here is the launch of our new minibus, see below for more details.

Exciting announcement of our newCommunityMinibus!

We have a brand new minibus to share with the local community.

Bucks County Council who set up the Community Transport Challenge Fund which has been administered by Heart of Bucks, Buckinghamshire Community Foundation have all contributed to giving Chiltern Rangers a very generous grant enabling us to purchase a new 17 seat Community Minibus. Thank you to everyone who was instrumental in making this happen!

Up until now we have had to hire a minibus each week to enable several of our existing volunteers to join in our conservation sessions. Now we have the means to take more volunteers from the wider community out into the woods and nature reserves which will improve their health & well-being whilst contributing to the conservation of the local environment. We are hoping to increase the number and diversity of people involved in our volunteering sessions which will in turn benefit their physical and mental health. The minibus will enable us to reach those who live in rural areas where the public transport links are deficient. This will especially help residents who have mobility problems, young people and those who find it difficult to use public transport. It will also help us to take more youth groups out at the weekends giving opportunities to those who may not be interested in taking part in sports activities to do some physical activitywhich should contribute positively towards their mental and physical health.

We also have a number of new projects in the Chiltern and South Buckinghamshire Districts and the additional transport will be put to good use to cover more weekdays further from our base. From the 5th October we will be starting our Green Mondays in the Amersham and Chesham area – keep an eye out for further details on facebook and twitter.

The minibus will be made available for hire to community groups on the days when it is not being used for Chiltern Rangers volunteering sessions and we have already had great interest from local youth groups, education establishments, local charities and organisations who would like to hire it out. In this way we hope access to local amenities will be made significantly easier.

Are you a local organisation or community group looking to hire a minibus? If so, pleasecontact us at Chiltern Rangers.

Thank you again to all those involved who helped us to achieve our goal!

This Autumn ……

We would like to encourage everyoneto get your children outside for an activity every day, even a few minutes can make a difference to their health. The ones who turned up to the Penn Fest were totally absorbed with looking at the bugs and butterflies. Autumn is a great time for them with conkers and all those leaves to roll in and kick around! The children might enjoy it too!
