Chiltern Society Real Bread Award

The Chiltern Society has launched its award for 2016, which is all about Real Bread.

“By Real Bread we mean bread made using traditional methods and containing no artificial additives. We would love people to nominate their favourite artisan bakery or bread stall at the local farmers’ market and tell us what is special about their loaves, and which loaf is their particular favourite.” said Elaine Mason, the award organiser.

During the summer judges will be visiting the nominated bakeries and bread stalls throughout the Chilterns to sample theloaves. A Real Bread award will be presented in September.

“Awards will be based on taste, texture and appearance,” said Elaine. “We are also keen to hear from people who have a favourite recipe for real bread – there will be a prize for the person submitting the nicest recipe which we will publish in our magazine.”

One of the Chiltern Society’s aims is to support farming and food production because the Chiltern landscape we see today owes much to our farmers who look after our beautiful countryside.

The Society, which has 7,000 members helping to conserve and celebrate the Chiltern Hills, supports food and drink producers and suppliers in the area by giving annual awards for such businesses as local pubs, tea shops and farm shops. This year it aims to support local craft bakers.

Details of the award and how you can get involved can be found on the Chiltern Society’s homepage, www.chilternsociety.org.uk. The closing date is 31 May.
