Chiltern Society Tea Shop Awards 2014
On Thursday 11September the Chiltern Society were delighted to present our winner’s certificate and a bottle of champagne to the winning tea shop ‘House of High Tea’ at 61 High Street, Berkhamsted, HP4 2DE.
The presentation is the culmination of the Chiltern Society’s brand new initiative – the Chiltern Society Tea Shop Award. The purpose of the project was to fulfil our aim of supporting local food producers and suppliers by celebrating our local food heroes.
We began by inviting the public to nominate their favourite tea shop in the Chilterns. We were thrilled by the fantastic response to the scheme. 29 businesses were nominated from all over the Chilterns, then people were invited to vote for one of the 29 nominees. The businesses receiving the most votes became our 6 finalists.
The judging phase commenced on July 1st with members of our team visiting participating tea shops in order to score them on criteria such as delicious homemade cakes, quality of service, range of teas and coffees and the competition to be the very first winner of this award was pretty fierce! But finally we chose our winner – ‘House of High Tea’.
The two runners-up who received Highly Commended certificates and a bottle of champagne were two charming cafes Lotte’s Kitchen in Chinnor and the Lady Grey Tea Room, Wendover.
Finally we were so impressed by the level of support and expressions of appreciation for Curiositea in Ivinghoe, that we presented them with a special award for “Best Loved Community Café”
