Competition brings splash of colour to Aylesbury

The weather may have been grey, but there was a celebration of colour in Aylesbury’s Market Square on Friday 2 October as the lucky winners of the Waterside Festival at Home colouring competition and Aylesbury Market Live colouring competition were awarded goodie bags filled to the top with products donated by market traders.
Taking cover from the rain Aylesbury Market Manager Paul Kirkham and local Councillor Julie Ward offered a round of applause and presented prizes to the three young winners.
Charlie, aged 6 (almost 7!), was the lucky winner of the Waterside Festival at Home colouring competition, who coloured in a fantastic canal-side scene for his entry. Charlie said: “Green is my favourite colour, but I used lots of colours in my picture and I’m really happy to win.” A duck, a bird, a swan and some fish were all included in Charlie’s amazing waterside picture. However, he was quick to add that his favourite animal, which also lives in water, is a crocodile.
Congratulations also to our worthy winners of the Aylesbury Market Live colouring competition: Tessa, aged 4, whose colouring of a birthday cake looked good enough to eat, and Verity with her entry illustrating a school of beautiful multi-coloured fish.
The lucky winners’ artwork will continue to add a splash of colour to Aylesbury’s town centre as the winning entries will be laminated and displayed in Market Square for all to see.
Councillor Julie Ward commented: “A huge congratulations to our winners and a big thank you for taking part in the colouring competitions. Having your fantastic creations displayed in Market Square will help to brighten up the town centre as we head into autumn and is sure to bring a smile to passers-by’s faces!”
