Contact the elderly

LIVING ON YOUR OWN AND WOULD ENJOY SOME FRIENDLY , STIMULATING COMPANY?

If you live within the Wendover/Lee area we would like to invite you to join us. Each month “Contact” hosts a Sunday afternoon tea for its members. The tea parties are hosted by a volunteer in a family home and our drivers are at hand to transport guests from door to door. The aim is to offer an enjoyable afternoon for older folk who live on their own and have difficulty accessing public transport. Our group is small, never more than twelve guests – cheerful, stimulating conversation is enjoyed in a friendly, family environment. Companionship and meaningful friendships are forged between fellow guests and volunteers – our teas are a ray of sunshine even on gloomy winter Sunday afternoons!

There is no cost involved for our guests, all our hosts and drivers are volunteers and we enjoy the tea parties too!

To qualify for membership a guest needs to be over 75 years of age, to be living on their own and unable to access public transport with ease. The teas take place on the third Sunday of each month between 3pm and 5pm.

The July tea party was a special one because we were able to welcome Lora Hume, the Bucks County Council’s ‘Community Link Officer’, to join us and to meet our guests. Lora was keen to learn how “Contact” operates and to discover the role that we play in our local community. It was a glorious summer afternoon and we were able to enjoy tea in our host’s beautiful garden.

Contact the Elderly is a registered charity and all our volunteers are CRB registered.
