Council delivers a crushing blow to fly-tipper

A vehicle used to dump waste illegally in Buckinghamshire has been crushed in a bid to prevent further incidents of fly-tipping.

The white Ford Transit van was used to fly-tip at St Leonards in Buckinghamshire on 6 May 2021. Members of the local community witnessed the incident and took details of the vehicle before contacting the police and council.

As part of the investigation the vehicle was seized by Buckinghamshire Council from Windsor Road in Chesham on 11 August in a joint operation with Thames Valley Police.

The owner of the vehicle did not come forward to claim it and so it was crushed on 13 September 2021.

Peter Strachan, Cabinet Member for Climate Change and Environment said: “Vehicle seizure is another tool which Buckinghamshire Council uses in the fight against fly-tipping.

“We will not tolerate illegal dumping and the destruction of this vehicle should serve as a both a lesson and warning to others.”

Peter added: “I would also like to thank the local residents for doing their bit to help us and the police. Together, we have been able to take one more fly-tipping vehicle off the road.”
