Ticket office closure public consultation extended to 1 September
Updated 31 July, 2023
Following widespread protests by customers, MPs, local mayors, unions and other concerned parties, the 21 day “public consultation” process on proposed nationwide railway station ticket office closures has been extended by about six weeks, to 1 September. Originally it was announced with no prior warning on 5 July and supposed to end on 26 July.
The proposals would see the closure of nearly all ticket offices on Chiltern Railways routes, including at Wendover Station, in order to save money by selling all tickets online or through machines.
Details of the proposed closure are posted at the station, with a QR code link to the consultation website. These have been updated to include the new 1 September deadline. You can also read them here: www.chilternrailways.co.uk/ticketofficeproposals.
Wendover station’s ticket office is scheduled for closure under plans to save money by selling all tickets online or through machines.
This is part of proposals published by the Rail Delivery Group (RDG), the nationwide body responsible for ticket offices, machines etc. If accepted, the closures will affect most stations nationwide, including all on the Chiltern Lines routes.

RDG announced a “public consultation period, closing on 26 July, where anyone can write in with their opinions on the closure. There are no pre-set forms, and there’s no central website to access the consultation.
Wendover residents and other Chiltern Line users affected by the proposed closure can send an email with their views to chiltern.consultation@londontravelwatch.org.uk, or write a letter to: Freepost RTEH-XAGE-BYKZ, London TravelWatch, PO Box 5594, Southend-on-Sea, SS1 9PZ.
