Date set to cut Wendover Bypass noise

Work to lay a ‘very low noise surface’ along Wendover bypass is scheduled to start during August bank holiday week and is expected to take 10 days, weather permitting.

The £1.51 million scheme, funded by HS2 as mitigation for noise construction traffic will make on the road, is in place of noise barriers originally specified.

In a public consultation last November, 78% of residents who took part preferred a very low noise surface, and in February Mark Shaw, Buckinghamshire County Council Deputy Leader and Transport Cabinet Member asked the HS2 Board for their approval, which has now been granted.

It’s planned to close Wendover bypass at night, from 7pm to 6am, from Tuesday 27 August to Saturday 7 September, while the old road surface is removed from a 1.2 mile stretch nearest to the village, and the new surface laid.

Mark Shaw said: “This scheme has been a long time in gestation, and during this time there has been no doubt about Wendover’s strong feelings for the new road surface. I’m really pleased we can now get on and deliver their preference.”
