Easter Bunny Mayhem at the Sgts Mess
The Warrant Officer’s and Sergeant’s Mess was the venue for the RAF Halton Spring Happy Hour recently with lots of children enjoying all the fun of the Easter themed event complete with Birds of Prey on show and a visit from the Easter Bunny.
The preparation was undertaken by the Mess committee, and even though a small event, it took more co-ordination than most WOs and Sgts Mess Dining In Nights. With the presence of animals and a large number of people it was important to keep all those attending safe. This was managed very well especially while keeping the wonderful Easter Bunny from eating all the chocolates!!!
Little did the visiting children know that the Wheatley Birds of Prey Centre had been booked and brought along a Hollywood star, the Eurasian Eagle Owl, who appeared in Harry Potter Goblet of Fire. Children and adults were able to hold the owls under close supervision from the three expert falconers.
Flt Sgt Sarah Hammond, from CTS, said: We had a visit from the Hearing Dog Tazzie who brought along her handler Jaquie, both chatted and integrated with all adults and children. Froggle Andy entertained the children for the afternoon making various balloon shapes and a touch of magic. The now famous BFBS ice cream van supplied the free ice cream which went down a treat, and WO Si Jacobs had a successful afternoon selling the RAF 100 cookbook. The Easter Bunny arrived and did a great job helping with the Easter Egg Hunt which was organised by Lorraine and Jan from the Trinity Community Centre. The event was a great success and solidifies the community spirit ahead of RAF100.
