ESS Manager leaving after 20 years

Nick Coyne, ESS manager for 20 years at RAF Halton, is leaving this week. He is staying with the Compass Group and taking on project work at Sandhurst initially until he takes up a new position elsewhere.

Nick started at RAF Halton as a trainee chef in the Sgt’s Mess, he progressed on to chef manager, and moved up to become the Station’s catering manager. Four years ago became the manager of RAF High Wycombe as well, running both sites.

Nick recalls one of the highlights of his time here as being the International Defence Rugby Championships, with teams from as far away as Canada, Australia, Tonga and New Zealand visiting to play and the massive task the Station took on to feed the players.

Nick said: “There weren’t really any low times just fantastic opportunities to be had and I delivered because I had such an incredible team who always delivered to me and they are what I will miss.”

Wing Commander Niki Stacey, OC Support Wing, couldn’t praise Nick enough for his dedication and said: “This is principally an end of an era as Nick has worked as part of our Whole Force Team ethos. His outstanding commitment to RAF Halton has made him a superb team member. We wish him well for the future and whatever else is in store for him.”
