Get family tree tips at local history fair
History buffs can get expert advice on compiling their family trees and learn more about the county’s fascinating past at a special history fair being held later this month.
It takes place on Saturday, November 19 at the Centre for Buckinghamshire Studies, Walton Street, Aylesbury, where representatives from local societies and museums will give presentations on a range of historical subjects.
Amongst the experts is Rex Watson from Buckinghamshire Family History Society, who will be giving tips and tricks about how you can discover your own families’ ancestry.
Other highlights include talks on Winslow manor court books, restoring the training trenches at RAF Halton, apprentices at RAF Halton, Buckinghamshire Gardens Trust, Haddenham in 1820 and artefacts of Wycombe museum.
The fair coincides with the national Explore Your Archive Week between November 19 and 27. This aims to encourage organisations to showcase their unique archives to the public.
Cabinet member for community engagement and public health, Martin Phillips said “In celebration of Explore your Archive Week, I am delighted to see the archives department pull together what will be a very fascinating and interesting day. Our county has such a rich and unique heritage which I’m sure everyone will enjoy finding out about.”
County archivist, Laura Cotton said “This is the first time we have invited local organisations to share an open day with us and we hope that lots of people will come along to find out more about their work, as well as find out more about the Centre for Bucks Studies.”
