First bypass roundabout to get a new surface
The first of two roundabouts on Stoke Hammond and Western Linslade bypasses will be resurfaced at the weekend (17-20 August).
Chelmscote roundabout, with links to Linslade and Stoke Hammond, is being prepared overnight on Wednesday (15) and Thursday (16), and both bypass carriageways are due to close from 7pm to 6am to facilitate this.
At the weekend resurfacing teams will move in to lay the new surface, and the bypass will be closed in both directions from 7pm on Friday (17) to 6am on Monday (20).
Work resurfacing the northbound (Milton Keynes-bound) carriageway started on Monday (13 August), and this side of the bypass will remain closed until Monday 10 September. Southbound lanes (towards Wing and Aylesbury) remain open, while northbound traffic is being diverted via the A505 and A5.
Mark Shaw, Buckinghamshire County Council Deputy Leader and Transport Cabinet Member, saidfull carriageway closures gave contractors a clear run along the five-mile length, to get the job done more quickly, to better control costs and quality, and to maintain road safety for motorists.
“While we work on these major improvements, I understand carriageway closures will cause some inconvenience, for which apologise,” said Mark. “We’ll do our best to keep this to a minimum.”
The eight-week £4.5 million improvement scheme is due for completion by October 7.
