Flackwell Heath man to pay £1,067 for two offences of fly-tipping

Timothy John Smith (53) of Woodside, Flackwell Heath, pleaded guilty at High Wycombe Magistrates Court last week (Wednesday 13 January) to two offences of fly-tipping.

The court heard that on 2 June and 11 June 2015 Mr Smith was caught by cameras deployed at Spring Lane, Flackwell Heath, dumping building material that he had brought to the area in his pickup truck.

A Waste Partnership for Buckinghamshire investigator interviewed Mr Smith at a police station for the two separate offences, which he admitted during the interview.

At court Mr Smith was fined £200 and Magistrates ordered him to pay full prosecution costs of £847.40. A victim surcharge of £20 was also levied, making a total to pay of £1,067.40.

The case was prosecuted by Buckinghamshire County Council working on behalf of the Waste Partnership for Buckinghamshire.

The Waste Partnership launched the ‘Illegal Dumping Costs’ campaign in October 2003 to combat illegal dumping and waste management offences in Buckinghamshire. Since then, the Partnership has secured over 500 convictions against individuals and companies for illegal dumping and related offences. On average, there is at least one conviction per week for illegal dumping offences in Buckinghamshire. This has resulted in a halving of reported incidents and a saving of over £1 million for residents.
