From care work to the catwalk – Proud of Bucks competition winners announced
Care workers across Bucks have been working hard behind the scenes since the start of the pandemic, doing what they do best, looking after some of our most vulnerable residents. It was the turn of some of them to enjoy a moment in the spotlight this week however, when they became the lucky winners of a selection of women’s fashion items from an international designer clothing brand.
Last month, staff from care homes and settings across the county were given the chance to enter a free prize draw to win a selection of designer pieces in a range of sizes and styles from international clothing brand Winser London. Seven lucky winners were pulled out from the hat and were each given a box containing more than 50 separate items to share with their colleagues.
The competition winners came from:
· Rock House Residential Care Home – Chalfont St Peter
· Gold Hill Care Team – Chalfont St Giles
· The Croft Care Home – Amersham
· Mandeville Grange Nursing Home – Aylesbury
· Hughenden Gardens Retirement Village – High Wycombe
· Sunrise Care – Beaconsfield
· Abbeyfield Haddenham Society – Haddenham
Kim Winser, OBE, founder & CEO of Winser London said: “We are in full admiration for the amazing work our care workers have delivered in such challenging times. We, as a locally born business, wanted to reward some hard-working workers in our care homes through a fun competition to say a big thank you. It’s just a small gesture but hopefully each winner will enjoy feeling special and confident, catwalk style! Thank you to you all.”
Angela Macpherson Buckinghamshire Council’s Cabinet Member for Adult Social Care said: “What a wonderful way to say thank you to care staff for everything they are doing. Thank you to Winser London for coming up with such a lovely idea. Our care workers have been working flat out since the end of March and they are still working hard to protect and care for some of our most vulnerable residents. We are all grateful for their hard work and dedication.”
Last month Buckinghamshire Council arranged for a pack of goodies including homemade cookies and speciality teabags to be delivered to all care settings in the county with a thank you card and personal message to all staff. Children from schools in the local area have drawn pictures and sent cards to staff in care homes and many organisations and individuals have donated goods and services to show their gratitude, all embracing the Proud of Bucks spirit.
