Grand Gesture: Grief support charity receives donation from local homebuilder

Harry’s Rainbow, a charity which specialises in helping children and young people in Milton Keynes and surrounding areas who have been bereaved of a parent or sibling, has received a £1,000 donation from housebuilder David Wilson Homes to assist with its work.
The charity was founded in October 2011, following the death of five-year-old Harry from massive brain stem damage in 2009. Harry’s Rainbow was set up as Harry’s legacy, and is committed to supporting bereaved children and their families in the Milton Keynes and surrounding areas.
The contribution from the leading housebuilder will help Harry’s Rainbow continue to provide various bereavement support services. These include regular support groups, activities and trips, and individual tailored support.
Emma Gilead, Events and Fundraising Officer at Harry’s Rainbow, said: “We were over the moon when we were contacted by David Wilson Homes advising us we had been successful in being nominated for a donation.
“We have used the funding towards paying for the GriefChat function on our website. GriefChat was created by bereavement experts whereby you can chat directly to a specially trained bereavement counsellor.
“Sadly, as with all charities we have suffered through the Covid pandemic and all donations are so greatly received. Since January 2022 we have also had an increase of 50% in our child registrations.
“On behalf of Harry’s Rainbow, I would like to thank David Wilson Homes in making this donation to us to help us to continue supporting bereaved children.”
John Dillon, Managing Director at David Wilson Homes South Midlands, said: “As a leading housebuilder we strive to support the communities in and around the areas in which we build, and we are delighted to be able to offer Harry’s Rainbow a donation to support the fantastic work it does.”
