Halton ‘Brats’ Remember
RAF Halton Aircraft Apprentices Association held their Annual Ceremony of Remembrance this week with a service by the ‘Tribute’ outside Kermode Hall.
Wreaths were laid by the Station Commander, Wing Commander Niki Stacey, Air Marshal Julian Young and representatives from the Apprentices Association.
Secretary of the Halton Apprentices Association, Denis O’Brien, said: “In 1997 the Queen unveiled a Tribute to commemorate the RAF Halton Apprentice Scheme. Every year since then, a Tribute Service has been held to remember those who served as Apprentices and their contribution to their Country and of course the RAF.
“This year we commemorated Don Finlay’s success at the Berlin Olympics, an apprentice’s recollection of the Freedom Of Aylesbury Parade and the Graduation of the last Aircraft Apprentices Entry (106th). Air Marshal Julian Young, RAF Chief Engineer, gave a speech during the Remembrance Service in St George’s Church to which some 200 veterans and their wives and guests attended. This service was followed by a buffet lunch in Halton House where the veterans were able to meet Air Marshal Young, the Station Commander, Wing Commander Niki Stacey and a number of her colleagues. Some 40 Veterans then witnessed the Recruit Graduation Parade on Henderson Parade Square. A place we are all very familiar with.”
