Have your say on first phase of Princes Risborough Relief Road

Buckinghamshire Council has unveiled detailed plans for the first phase of the new Princes Risborough Relief Road and is asking local people to give their views on the proposals.

Following a successful bid by the council, the first phase of the new relief road is being supported by £12m from Homes England.

The full project will be delivered in three phases with subsequent phases funded through developer contributions as the new Princes Risborough Expansion Area is created. When complete, the relief road will provide an alternative route to the existing A4010 and will connect the newly expanded area with the town.

The consultation is on the design of the first phase of the relief road, and the council is seeking feedback on the proposals to ensure all local views are taken into account prior to a future planning application. The three-week public consultation will run from 19 November until 12 December. Proposals include:

  • Constructing a new road section and widening an 800m stretch of road to enable two-way traffic
  • Building a new railway bridge on Summerleys Road and improving the current one-way traffic flows under the existing bridge
  • Installing a new traffic light-controlled junction at Summerleys Road, Station Road, Station Approach and new link road connecting to Picts Lane.
  • A new cycleway/footway to improve access for pedestrians and cyclists
  • Improvements to the existing waterways including measures to counter the impacts of climate change and potential flooding by providing additional surface water storage
  • An increase to biodiversity, adding new grassland, woodland, shrubs, hedgerows and trees, enhancing and expanding existing plant and wildlife habitats.

Martin Tett, Leader of Buckinghamshire Council said: “This is the first key part of the relief road for Princes Risborough. It will deliver improvements to the existing road network and support the planned growth of the town. When the relief road is complete it will create an alternative to the A4010 through the town and reduce congestion in the town centre.”

Subject to planning approval and land acquisition construction on site is proposed to start from Autumn 2023 with completion planned for Summer 2025.
