Hear from those at the heart of adoption in Bucks this National Adoption Week

“Although adopting is by far the biggest thing that you are ever likely to do in your life – it is also the absolute very best and the most rewarding.” says a Buckinghamshire adopter.

As part of National Adoption Week (18-24 October 2021), Buckinghamshire Council is sharing the voices of those whose lives have been impacted by adoption and involved in finding loving and safe homes for children. Buckinghamshire Council’s Adoption team is sharing podcasts, videos and stories every day this week on their Facebook page www.facebook.com/adoptionbucks and Twitter page www.twitter.com/BucksAdoption.

By sharing their stories, the council hopes to bust myths about adoption, spread the word about the support available, and raise awareness of the children they are particularly seeking adopters for.

Anita Cranmer, Cabinet Member for Education and Children’s Services says:

“At any one time, we are supporting around 25 children looking for their forever family. For many, applying for adoption can seem mysterious and intimidating, but the process doesn’t need to be daunting. Adoption has changed over the years, and is open, thoughtful, supportive and fair, and the chances are, if you want to, you can adopt.

“Adopting with Buckinghamshire Council means you’ll get support every step of the way including after you’ve completed the process and become an adoption family.

“In Buckinghamshire we always need adopters who want to parent older children, brothers and sisters and children with additional needs. We are also seeking people who can adopt children from Black and Minority Ethnic backgrounds; this is because we want as wide a pool as possible of adoptive parents so we can find matches for our children more easily. It’s important to have a wide variety of different cultures and backgrounds to find the right families for our children.”
