Help your favourite Beaconsfield project get a windfall

Three fantastic Beaconsfield projects have been shortlisted in a competition where local people decide which one gets the most money.

It’s all part of ‘Beaconsfield Decides’, a competition set up by Buckinghamshire County Council for local people to vote for the scheme they think should get the most funding from the Beaconsfield Local Area Forum.

Local Area Forums have been established by the county council so local people can directly choose how money is spent in their area. Now the people of Beaconsfield can decide how £10,000 funding is divided between the three shortlisted projects in the ‘Beaconsfield Decides’ final.

The one which comes out top will get £5,000 and the other two schemes will get £2,500 each. Voting is open now until Saturday 11 May.

These are the three projects Beaconsfield locals can now vote for:

Chiltern Rangers Community Conservation:

Chiltern Rangers is a social enterprise which works with local communities to carry out conservation and wildlife work in the Chilterns area. The group provides practical habitat management of local woodlands, grassland, commons, ponds and streams. They would use the funding to work with Holtspur Bank Nature Reserve to expand their volunteer base by delivering conservation sessions for local residents, schools and community groups, giving skills and experience to all who take part while helping local wildlife.

Beaconsfield Drinking Fountain:

Beaconsfield Women’s Institute along with ‘Plastic Free Beaconsfield’ is looking to install a drinking water fountain in Beaconsfield. They would use the money to fund the scheme, providing a source of free drinking water to encourage local people to switch to reusable bottles and reduce use of single-use plastic bottles.

Skills4Life:

Community Youth Ventures want to set up a new scheme called ‘Skills4Life”. They would use the money to host a series of workshops which bring local young people together to learn various ‘skills for life’ helping them to prepare for the future. The workshops will include health & wellbeing, cooking, DIY, gardening and environmental work, sport and fitness, independent living skills and creativity & the arts.

“All three of these projects are worthy winners so I’m really pleased that they will all get some funding through the Beaconsfield Local Forum. And I’m also really pleased that it’s local people who will decide for themselves which scheme should get the most money. This is why our local area forums are so important; they allow local people to choose how county council funds are spent in their area.
