Homebuilder provides new opportunity for apprentice in Aylesbury
Barratt Homes North Thames is continuing its positive work to support local employment, by creating a new role in the construction industry for a Buckinghamshire apprentice.
Ronnie Norris (21) will be learning the carpentry trade on the homebuilder’s flagship Kingsbrook development, where he also lives after his family purchased a property there. After seeing the development process first-hand during his family’s move, Ronnie made the decision to start his apprenticeship with the company.
Ronnie said, “My family have recently bought a Barratt home at Kingsbrook, and having seen the process for myself I was impressed by the quality of the property as well as the professionalism shown by the company. The support shown throughout the process of purchasing, and since we moved in has been great.
“This is what attracted me to Barratt Homes as I knew it would be a great company to work for.”
Ronnie is now attending Aylesbury College as well as working out on site at the Broughton Crossing development to achieve his Level 2 Diploma in Carpentry.
He continued, “I knew I wanted to work on a construction site as I enjoy the environment, but I wanted a role that would allow me to build a career for myself rather than just a job.
“An apprenticeship was a great option for me as there are more opportunities for progression and development and it leads me into a future career. The support from both Barratt Homes and the Construction Industry Training Board (CITB) has been great so far and I am really enjoying being a part of the site environment.”
Once Ronnie finishes his apprenticeship in two years he will be a fully qualified carpenter. His time on site at Kingsbrook is spent learning from experienced tradespeople for four days a week.
The apprenticeship programme is well structured and tailored to individual needs. Apprentices will receive encouragement, support and guidance to help them develop, giving them the skills and qualifications for a successful career.
Ilir Gjini, Construction Director at Barratt Homes North Thames, said: “The construction industry is continuing to grow and this is an exciting time for anyone with an interest in housebuilding to join a market leading company.
“As one of the country’s top developers we are absolutely committed to developing raw talent and I believe that we have a duty to provide these kinds of apprenticeship opportunities.”
Kingsbrook is an award winning wildlife friendly development which will deliver 2,450 homes to Aylesbury, as well as new community centres, schools and facilities.
