We’re 40!
Our 40th birthday celebrations have started and we’re gearing up to our official birthday on Thursday 6 June. In 40 years we’ve gone from supporting 20 people a year to over 2,000. We are truly a community charity, funded by our community for our community. It is because of you and people like you that we have The Hospice of St Francis.Thank you.

There’s lots going on in May and June to celebrate our birthday and we’d love you to get involved:
Garden Party, Ashridge House – Sunday 23 June 1-5pm
Join us for our big birthday party in the stunning grounds of Ashridge House! Attractions include our shopping village with lots of independent producers, children’s entertainment, live music, refreshments including cream teas, local beers and ice cream, plus the chance to sing Happy Birthday!
Hospice Official Birthday – Thursday 6 June
Look out for us out and around the area as we celebrate our official birthday. Come and say hello if you spot a member of the team! And, as part of our fortieth anniversary celebrations we are recreating the silent Prayer Vigil that was held at St Peter’s Church in Berkhamsted on the 6th June 1979. This vigil led to the founding of our Hospice. St Peter’s will be open this year from 4pm until 8pm providing a multi-faith, contemplative space to give thanks for our Hospice and to pray for our future. The Lady Chapel in St Albans Cathedral will also be open from 1pm-3pm.
Memory Walk – Saturday 29 June, Berkhamsted
Would you like to remember a loved one at a special event? Join our Memory Walk on Saturday 29 June around Berkhamsted and taking in some historic buildings from our 40-year history. More details coming soon!
Join our Birthday Skydive! – Sunday 7 July
Like us, are you celebrating a special birthday, anniversary or date this year? Mark the occasion whilst supporting us by joining our Birthday Skydive!
Markyate Plant Sale – Saturday 18 May, 64 High Street, Markyate
Held in a delightful private garden in the village of Markyate, this is a must for garden enthusiasts. You can choose summer bedding plants, perennials, herbs and vegetables and enjoy delicious home-baked treats and refreshments, all accompanied by live music. Children welcome!
Bubble Rush – Sunday 12 May, Gadebridge Park, Hemel Hempstead
Hurrah it’s Bubble Rush on 12 May!! Join us with all the family to have fun running 5km through masses of multi-coloured bubbles, fundraising and creating special memories together.
