HOT PANTO NEWS IN THE HOTTEST WEEK OF THE YEAR

First Family Entertainment and the Aylesbury Waterside Theatre are delighted to announce that playing this year’s panto baddie, Queen Rat, will be X Factor finalist Melanie Masson in Dick Whittington Fri 11 Dec – Sun 3 Jan.

Melanie joins fellow X Factor 2013 winner Sam Bailey playing Fairy Bowbells and local funny man Andy Collins who returns due to popular demand as Idle Jack.

Melanie trained at Queen Margaret University, Edinburgh gaining a Diploma in Dramatic Art. Best known for her powerhouse performances on ITV’s X Factor 2012, Melanie amazed the judges and public with her incredible voice, covering Janis Joplin’s Cry Baby. She reached the live shows with mentor Gary Barlow. Since then, her life’s been a whirlwind.

Melanie signed to major music company Delirious/Blacksmith, sharing a roster with Sam Smith and Emile Sande, and is recording a new album. She toured the UK, was nominated for a Capital FM best newcomer and starred in David Baddiel’s The Infidel at Theatre Royal, Stratford East, London. She has recorded and toured with Pink, The Stereophonics, Kasabian, Norman Cook, Shaun Ryder, Russell Watson, Mark Owen, The Prodigy, Leo Sayer, David Essex, Mike Batt, Don Black, Midge Ure, Wet Wet Wet, and Altered Images.

Theatre credits include: Mary Lou in Jailhouse Rock (Piccadilly Theatre, London), Delores in Peggy Sue Got Married (Shaftsbury Theatre, London), LV in Little Voice (National Tour), What A Feeling! (Flying Music), Helena in A Midsummer Night’s Dream (Edinburgh Festival), Here and Now Arena Tour (Tony Denton Productions) and The Lenny Beige/Steve FurstComedy Show.

No stranger to TV, Melanie has appeared on Celebrity Juice, This Morning, The High Road, Taggart, Top of the Pops, Children in Need and even appeared in a worldwide TV ad for Nokia 5510 as a busker!

In 2014 Melanie played Fairy Godmother alongside John Barrowman and The Krankies in Cinderella at the SECC arena, Glasgow, and is delighted to be appearing in Dick Whittington at the Waterside Theatre.
